Home to five universities in the world’s top 100, Hong Kong has become an increasingly popular destination for students from mainland China and around the world. The influx is increasing the need for student accommodation.

However, the demand for student accommodation has outpaced supply. We estimate that the tightened availability in university hostels will create additional spillover demand of 22,300 bedspaces into private accommodation by 2027. Such a robust growth outlook underscores the need for strategic planning and investment in the sector to ensure that the supply of accommodation keeps pace with escalating demand.
